Climb mountains not so the world can see you,
but so you can see the world.
— David McCullough jr.
After eleven years in Mali, I moved back to The Netherlands last year August. It has been a time in which travel restrictions have limited movements. I decide to find my freedom within the so-called limitations, and what better way to do this, than to set out on one of the many hiking trails in my home country?
My feet are itchy and the Dutch Mountain Trail is calling.
My friend Ricky has generously offered to drive me to the starting point of the trail in Eygelshoven. The closer we get, the more the pre-trip jitters get a hold on me. In my mind I double-check if I have brought along all the essentials. Although there are accommodations in towns and villages near the trail, I have chosen to go all the way, carrying my tent and food for five days.
